Cyber Bullying

Cyber Bullying

Very Importent Post

What is it?
Cyber bullying is when a person is being bullied by another person, or a gang, through technology, such as texts, emails, calls, chat rooms and social networking sites. Nearly all of us can be contacted 24/7 through our mobile phones and the internet.
Why do people cyber bully?
In some cases, it might be for revenge; they are angry for some reason and want to harm the person that hurt them. They might feel a sense of power, especially because they’re behind a screen and cannot get hurt. It could be because of jealousy, or just wanting to fit in and do what their friends are doing. Whatever the reason, cyber bullying is WRONG and there is NO EXCUSE for it.
What to do?
If you are being cyber bullied, or know someone who is, here are a few things which can help:
·        Do NOT reply! However tempting it may be, if you reply, the other person will only get angrier and the argument will get worse, other people may even get involved. Just try to ignore it.
·        Save all things the messages, emails, texts, etc. Save all the harmful things they’ve said as evidence.
·        Block them and/or delete them off your contacts on your phone (and their friends if necessary), so you can’t receive their messages. Delete them as a friend, so you cannot see the things they’ve written.
·        Report them! If it’s on a social media site, such as Facebook or MySpace, click the report button, and report them for cyber bullying.
·        TELL SOMEBODY! Whether it be your mum, dad, uncle, aunt, grandmother, grandfather, older sister, brother, teacher, friend, counsellor, tell a trusted adult, who you know will help you.

What are the consequences if you cyber bully?

Obviously, if your parents find out, they will more than likely, take away all your technology devices.  It depends on how serious it is and how long it has been going on for, but cyber bullying is against the law and you CAN and probably WILL have to face criminal charges. You could get a misdemeanour cyber harassment charge and be taken to juvenile court. You may have to see a counsellor and even move schools.

Cyber bullying facts:

·        Nine out of ten middle school students have had their feelings hurt online.
·        Girls are about twice as likely to be cyber bullied than boys.
·        Young people who bully have a one in four chance of having a criminal record by the time they’re thirty.
·        About 75% have visited a website, where they’ve seen a person insulting or fighting with another person.
·        Four out of ten people have had their passwords stolen and their accounts hacked.
·        About 58% of people have been bullied online.

Well annsmeller, firstly - thank you for asking.
You might need to talk to your teacher for some of these though.
  • Use recycled paper for note taking and in printers
  • Have a veggie garden planted in your school yard
  • Walk or ride to school insted of taking the car
  • Plant trees in the yard
  • Get cleaners to make a spray out of vinegar and water
  • Purchase water tanks
  • See if you can install solar panels

Dear Erin and Annabelle,
In response to your blog that I have just read; http://www.ahealthyearth.blogspot.com/ I enjoyed it very much! I am writing this from my neice's account, who also enjoyed your blog very much. It taught me a lot about the environment, global warming and sustainability. I have always been aware of the environment and am always on the lookout for new ways to help and am now more aware of climate change and I now know ways to slow/prevent it, thanks to you. Your blog was very helpful, interesting and informative. I hope other people read it and follow your tips on becoming more eco-friendly. I am glad that someone is aware of the problems occurring, because I don’t think that the government is doing enough about it! How can people in Australia sleep at night, knowing that as a country we produce 399,219 metric tonnes of carbon each year?!
Yours sincerely,
Darcy H. Darlsworth

Energy Tip #4

Energy Tip #4

Washing

A lot of energy is used to wash your clothes with warm water and using a tumble dryer.

xxx

When washing your clothes in the washing machine - insted of cranking up the hot water, swap it for cold instead. Then when it comes to drying, put your clothes on the washing line and let the heat of the sun dry them.

Energy Tip #3

Energy Tip #3

Materials

You can easily recycle if you know how to do it propely!

xxx

Be sure to re-use EVERYthing you can before throwing it in the bin to be sent to the landfill. If you have a large cardboard box, set it aside and put your plastic bottels, paper and cardboard boxes. You can now re-use those materials before you put it in your recycling bin.

Energy Tip #2

Energy Tip #2

Water Tanks

Insted of always using water from the tap to water your garden try using this tip.

xxx

If you have enough money - you can buy a large water tank. But you can still get a small one if you want to, it is your choice after all!
But if you don't want to spend all that money, you can always stick a hose in the bath tub after you've used it and use the bath water to water the garden insted.

Sustainability Part 2

Sustainability

Ways To Be Sustainable

Reduce, reuse, and recycle! Reduce the amount of food with packaging you buy, reuse items that can be reused, recycle paper, cardboard, plastic and aluminium and anything else that can be recycled, put them in the proper recycling bins.
Support organic farms. Buy organic food, organic food tastes nicer, is better for you and best of all, is better for the environment, because it is grown naturally, not with chemicals sprayed all over it.
Think globally, shop locally. Think about how you can help the world, but buy things that are Australian made. It is better for the environment, because the food has not been flown for miles in an airplane, therefore less greenhouse gases have been emitted into the atmosphere.
Join an organisation. Join a group to help find new ways to keep our Earth sustainable. Donate to charities and spread the word!
Limit your use of household cleansers. Household cleansers (window spray, air fresheners, etc.) are bad for the environment. The chemicals are released into the atmosphere and kill many native plants and are toxic for animals.
Drive less. Driving releases a lot of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Instead of contributing to global warming, help keep the Earth sustainable by riding a bike, scooter, even roller blades! Walk there instead or take public transport, such as trains, buses or trams.
Go green. Buy environmentally friendly light bulbs, use less electricity, turn off electrical appliances at the wall, make a compost bin and put your veggie scraps in, then put it in the garden.  Time your showers; get solar panels or rain water tanks, if you must use a car, try and get a hybrid one.

xxx

See, there are a lot of different ways we can help the environment and help keep our Earth sustainable for everyone. If we all pitch in and do a little, every day, we can keep our Earth pristine for millions more years.

Sustainability Part 1

Sustainability

What Is It?

Environmental sustainability is about meeting the needs of the present and keeping things pristine for the next generation. By becoming sustainable, we can reduce our environmental impact and help preserve the world’s precious natural resources.

Global Warming Poem #3

Non-Rhyming Poem

Written by Annabelle

We all share this planet Earth
It belongs to everyone
There is only one Earth
Beautiful blue and green
Pristine beaches, clear blue skies
Spectacular rainforests, wonderful deserts
Snow-covered mountains, dry grassy plains
Sunshine and rainfall, howling winds
Stars and the moon, clouds and comets
Lakes to go fishing, tracks to go hiking
Bustling towns and cities, quiet country roads
Different and unique people helping each other
Gorgeous plants growing taller and stronger
Amazing creatures of all kinds, living together
We all share this planet Earth
It belongs to everyone
There is only one Earth
And we are slowly destroying it

xxx

An incredibly meaningful poem.

Gobal Warming Poem #2

Rhyming Poem

Written by Annabelle

Global warming is when the Earths’ temperature rises
Due to greenhouse gases being released into the skies
If we don’t slow or prevent this, we will suffer
Oceans and seas will start to rise
The polar ice caps will melt
Many amazing plants and animals will die
Natural disasters will get a lot rougher
If soon this is not dealt with
Rainfall patterns will change
The earth will get a lot warmer
Humans will be put into danger
We’ll lose all our precious fauna
These are just a few of the effects
Who knows, global warming may have wiped out the tyrannosaurus rex!

The WWF have created an online Carbon Footprint calculator to help you figure out how you impact the Earth.

Comment what your results.
My Result was 1.6 Earths if everyone lived like me.

Energy Tip #1

Energy Tip #1

Light Bulbs!

By replacing some of the lights in your 'most used rooms' you can cut down on your carbon footprint - and your energy bills too.

xxx

You can buy low wattage bulbs in your local light shop, or hardware store. If you don't want to replace every single light in your home - only replace the ones that are in use the most.

Eco Swap: Winter

Eco Swap: Winter

Insted of turning your heater on and your electric blankets and what not, do something smart, do an Eco Swap!

BEFORE HAND:
Take out all your winter clothes and supplies, like blankets, wooley socks, jumpers, jackets and warm clothes.

xxx

COLD NIGHTS:
Now that you've already got out all your winter things - you don't need to go on a scavenger hunt to find anything warm. Throw on some warm clothes and wrap up warm in a blanket if necessory.

It's not that hard to make a slight difference and change the way you've an impact on the world.
